What can I take?

Lighters, e-cigarettes and spare lithium batteries are prohibited in the hold: Can I bring them on board? In what quantity can I carry aerosols or gas cartridges in my checked baggage? See the non-exhaustive list of prohibited and regulated items on our aircraft below.

Lithium batteries store energy in most electrical and electronic devices we use every day: cell phones and laptops, drones, electric transportation, etc. Spare and external lithium batteries are prohibited in the hold but allowed in the cabin under certain conditions to avoid damage during air travel. Learn more WARNING Your lithium-powered electrical and electronic devices will not be allowed on our aircraft if they are damaged, defective or if the manufacturer has recalled them.

Lithium-powered electrical and electronic devices that are damaged, defective or recalled by the manufacturer are prohibited on board our aircraft, in both the cabin and the hold.

1 - Aerosol products, toiletries and medication

Nonflammable aerosol products

Nonflammable and nontoxic gases that pose no risk when used for athletic or domestic purposes. The aerosol valves must be protected by a lid.

Please note: the net total of all toiletries, non-radioactive medication and the aerosol products cited above is limited to 2 kg or 2 l per person. The net quantity of each item must not exceed 0.5 kg or 0.5 l. Important: these quantities do not take into account restrictions applied to transporting liquids in the cabin. You can purchase these items in duty-free shops after the security checkpoints. Flammable or toxic aerosol products

Devices placed in checked baggage must be switched off. It should be impossible to switch the device on again by accident.

Lithium devices and batteries

Lithium batteries can catch fire if they short-circuit, are damaged, poorly designed or poorly assembled. Lithium batteries and devices that are damaged, defective or recalled by the manufacturer are prohibited in all aircraft. To avoid any damage, please wrap your devices and batteries carefully with an appropriate protection before placing them in your checked baggage. If you are carrying your devices in the cabin, please take care when using them on board.

Portable electronic devices < 100 Wh

Devices containing batteries, lithium-metal batteries (not exceeding 2 g of lithium) or lithium-ion batteries (not exceeding 100 Wh) transported for personal use: watches, video recorders, cameras, mobile phones, laptops, tablets, drones…

  • In the cabin: yes
  • In the hold: yes

Only baggage items with removable batteries are permitted on board. Fuel cells

The installation of a replacement cartridge is permitted but the filling of fuel cells is prohibited. The maximum amount of fuel in a fuel cell or a fuel cell cartridge cannot exceed:

  • 200 ml for liquids,
  • 200 g for solids,
  • for liquid gas, 120 ml for fuel cells or cartridges for non-metallic fuel cells, or 200 ml for fuel cells or cartridges for metallic fuel cells,
  • for hydrogen in metallic hydrides, the cartridges for fuel cells should have a water capacity that is less than or equal to 120 ml.

Exceptions The following products, if they are necessary during your flight, are allowed without restriction:

  • infant food,
  • medication, accompanied by a prescription or a statement from your doctor,
  • food for a specific dietary regimen.

Powdered substances include: flour, sugar, ground coffee, spices, powdered milk, cosmetics, sand, medication in powder form, baby food, etc.

SPECIFIC REGULATIONS FOR THE UNITED STATES

For flights to the United States, transporting more than 350 ml / 12 oz of powdered substance in the cabin is prohibited. Powder in greater quantities must be transported in checked baggage. Exceptions: medically prescribed powders, baby food, and powders purchased duty-free, placed in a sealed security tamper-evident bag (STEB).

14 - Protected animals and plants

The illegal selling and transport of endangered animals or plants, or of products derived from these endangered species, constitutes a growing threat to biodiversity. Air France cooperates with the authorities and international NGOs, putting in place emergency measures and informing its passengers about the risks and consequences of transporting endangered species. Please do not put yourself in an illegal situation and join us by confirming the legality of the products that you're transporting, in the hold or in the cabin. Transporting endangered species found in Annexe 1 on the CITES website is prohibited.
